2027: PDP’ll Triumph In Benue Come, Says Ex-Gov Ortom
The immediate past Governor of Benue State and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Chief Samuel Ortom, has declared that the party is poised for victory in the 2027 elections.
Ortom spoke when he joined stakeholders from the Lobi/Gwer Intermediate Area to formally present the party’s candidate for Benue North-West Senatorial District, aka Zone B, Dr. Eunice Ortom, to the Jemgbagh PDP family.
The former governor said the growing commitment of party members across the state had strengthened his confidence in the PDP’s prospects ahead of the elections.
He urged party members and candidates to pursue issue-based campaigns, and warned against insults, personal attacks and violence.
According to him, “the PDP should focus on policies, development and the welfare of the people, rather than the politics of bitterness”.
Ortom also assured party members that he remained committed to protecting their votes, stressing that the electoral mandate of the people must be respected.
He thanked Jemgbagh PDP stakeholders for accepting Dr. Eunice Ortom as the party’s candidate, saying she had prepared herself for the responsibility of representing the senatorial district.
The former governor also recalled his longstanding relationship with Jemgbagh, describing the area as his second home.
He highlighted some projects executed by his administration in the area, saying the projects remained enduring reminders of his administration’s presence and commitment to the people.
In her response, Dr. Eunice Ortom thanked the Jemgbagh PDP family for receiving her and accepting to mobilize support for her candidacy and other PDP candidates in 2027.
She pledged not to take the support for granted, assuring the people that their confidence would be rewarded with effective representation if elected.
Earlier, the leader of the Lobi/Gwer delegation, Hon. Charles Torbunde, said the purpose of the visit was to formally introduce Dr. Eunice Ortom to the Jemgbagh PDP family following her emergence as the party’s senatorial candidate.
Torbunde appealed to the stakeholders to support her candidature and work collectively for the success of the PDP in the 2027 elections.
Responding, the Jemgbagh PDP leader, Chief Hon. Mike Mku, welcomed the delegation and described the visit as important to the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the elections.
Chief Mku assured the delegation that the Jemgba PDP family was prepared to activate its grassroots structures for Dr. Eunice Ortom and other PDP candidates.
In separate remarks, Hon. Akaatagher Apande, Hon. Ortese Gbegi and Dr. Laha Dzever, who spoke on behalf of Tarkaa, Gboko and Buruku respectively, expressed confidence in Dr. Eunice Ortom pledged their support for her candidature.
Also speaking, former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly and PDP candidate for Gbemacha State Constituency, Aondona Dajo, represented by his wife, Mrs. Kundunmiyol Dajo, commended the Lobi/Gwer delegation for entrusting a woman with what she described as an important political responsibility.
She noted the critical role women play in political mobilisation but regretted that they are often underrepresented in political leadership.
Mrs. Dajo expressed confidence in Dr. Eunice Ortom, citing her antecedents and experience as reasons she would deliver effective representation if elected.
